Our Philosophy
Through the ages, civilizations and cultures have been improved because actors dared to share their stories on stage and most recently, in film. In a collaborative effort, writers have provided the words and the actors have breathed life into their stories. We have the power to touch lives in a positive way and we have the power to make the world a better place through our art.

At Matlin Studio you will discover truth in art. You wont find the bells and whistles. We dont view ourselves as a business. We are a provider of services to anyone who is interested in learning about and experiencing personal growth through the performing arts. Our goal is to educate the public, particularly actors, on the joys of working in this noble profession we call Acting.

Acting is not therapy. However, it is therapeutic for many. It provides us an artistic outlet for discovery of self and of the world in general. It has been my personal goal, as owner of Matlin Studio, to enhance the lives of students who are courageous enough to walk the path of self-discovery as they share their hearts with their audience.

I honor the performing artist and I honor the art of performance. I remain committed to our mission of Touching one life at a time through the Arts.

3 Week Audition Intensive
By Popular Demand...

3 - Week Cold Read Audition Intensive begins March 9th, 2010

Auditioning and cold reads are possibly the most difficult obstacle an actor will face. You may be the greatest actor in the world, but without at least some proficiency in the art of cold reading, youll rarely get past your audition. In this workshop the actor will gain the needed skills to master the audition process. Learn to understand the differences in auditioning for theatre, television, film, and commercial. You will also be given some helpful hints on how to audition for various casting directors in Arizona and L.A. Auditions are probably the single most nerve-wracking event an actor goes through. Increase your opportunities and work on putting your nerves to use by mastering the cold read.

A Mothers Will

Written by Julie Amparano

You think your family is crazy... What about Marys? Her husband Miguel sees no reason for staying sober; her daughter Rachel is a muppie (Mexican-American yuppie) doctor who cant be in the same room with her sister Annette, a super-Chicana channeling Frida Kahlo; and son Mike is worried whether coming out of the closet will kill his mother outright. All Mary wants is for everyone to get along... so she can join the family of ghosts in the living room.
