Welcoming an exchange student to your family is like opening a window to a different world. You and your family will not only gain a new family member, you will also learn about a different culture, its values and traditions. CIEEs USA High School students stay with their host families for either 5 or 10 months while attending a US high school. The cultural exchange between your family and the student will help you both to gain a deeper understanding of human values that unite all nations across the world. But what really makes this cross-cultural experience so exceptional are the relationships that evolve. By opening your home and your hearts to a young person from another culture, you quickly establish strong bonds. This wonderful relationship can turn out to be a lifelong friendship!
CIEE Host Families are as diverse as our students and can fit many profiles. Families can be with or without children, as well as single adults. The one thing that unites all of them is a strong sense for the importance of cross-cultural understanding in todays world. They are curious, open-minded, loving, and willing to help a young student to adjust in a new environment.
CIEE Host Families are provided with: A Host Family Orientation that is culturally specific to your student Regular supervision and guidance from a local representative as well as a team of dedicated Support Counseling staff based in the CIEE Portland, Maine Office Up-to-date information regarding hosting on our website 24 hour emergency assistance CIEE students will have their own spending money for the duration of their stay as well as medical insurance
