A unique solution for DJs who love the feel of vinyl but want to use their CDs for mixing and scratching, the Numark CDX CD turntable literally combines the best of both worlds. Unlike other CD turntables, which merely mimic the construction of traditional record players, the CDX uses a genuine 12-inch record as the controlling interface. In other words, the CDX not only looks like a turntable, but it actually feels like one as well. The CD responds to each movement of the 12-inch record whether youre scratching, battling, or looping, resulting in a DJ experience that harnesses modern digital formats while feeling as smooth and tangible as classic vinyl.
The CDX employs the same ultra-high-torque direct-drive motor as Numarks flagship TTX turntable, with adjustable start and stop times. Its also the same height as traditional turntables, and its dual start/stop buttons reside on either side of the platter, making it easy to position the turntable for standard or battle use. Among the CDXs shared CD/turntable features are impressive +/- 6, 12, 25, and 100 percent pitch control ranges; a key lock function that keeps vocals and music in the proper key even when the tempo increases dramatically; a built-in beatkeeper that delivers accurate and instant beat-per-minute readouts; and a DSP processor that lets DJs employ such effects as echo, slide, sonar, bleep, and filter--all controlled by a dedicated wheel. DJs can also activate the stutter function to instantly jump around within the track, or they can use the 3,000 cue points when loading a new CD to immediately access specific passages. And thanks to the quick-loading CD slot, DJs can swap out discs in no time at all.
Though Numark supplies a 12-inch LP for the slipmat, any record will do (its the wheel that controls the CD, not the record). DJs can also synchronize the CDX with drum machines and other MIDI devices due to the MIDI I/O. Additional features include a S/PDIF digital output, a bright VFD display that shows beats per minute, time, and unit status, and anti-shock buffer technology. The CDX measures 17.75 by 3.62 by 14.5 inches (W x H x D) and is covered by a two-year warranty.
